Jamelia Slams negative Youth Stereotypes.

UK singer Jamelia has been speaking out about the medias negative portrayel of young people in the London capitol and wants society to celebrate young people because she believes the negative images are damaging. Speaking on a visit to a South London school (watch video here) to visit youngsters at the Harris Academy in Peckham for the Prince’s Trust (of which she is Ambassador), Jamelia had this to say:

“It has been found that 60 per cent of the media coverage on youth has been negative which I feel is very damaging to them and to us as a society.

“I think basically we need to celebrate them and show them that we appreciate and love them.

“I’ve been speaking to the youths and they’ve been doing theatre projects and going gliding, cooking even starting a business. They’ve inspired me and I think they’re all really fantastic children.”

Imreally glad Jamelia has spoken out about this, as too many times young people are lumped into one group and looked upon so badly; when in reality its only a small minority of young people who are making the majority of the decent ones look bad. Such a shame…
