Exclusive Interview: Steph Jones.

For Gurl About Town’s first Exclusive Interview we could think of no one better than US Singer, Songwriter Steph Jones to help us set the standard!

Steph Jones is Unique, Talented, Unafraid, Fun and very Easy on the eyes! Previously a handpicked protege of megastar Ludacris over at Def Jam Records, he’s now broken out on his own and doing things his way! I caught up with him last week as he ventured over to our London shores for a visit to find out more about the man they call ‘Mr Ordinary’…

For those who Arent familiar – Can you tell Gurl About Town readers who Steph Jones is…
Whats going on everybody my name is Steph Jones and i am a young southern boy from Houston, Texas. I am a Singer/Songwriter/Producerand a bunch of other things but first and foremost I am a true lover of real music… meaning music that comes from the soul. that is what my music is all aboout… That real good feel good.

How long have you been Singing?
I’ve been trying to be a singer my whole life but my mom was a big fan of “SHUTUP” in the house so i didn’t realise i could sing until i got into college, so i would say about 6 years now.

So where did it all start for You?
The day I was Born!

Your over here in London on a Promo Tour – Hows it going?
Actually I am in London for a make the best out of everyday trip. I came here with no expectations, I just wanted to make the best out of everyday and it turned out better than expected.

How are you finding London?
London is really cool! It was good to get away but honestly the weather is a bit bland!

What are you Loving And not loving about it here?!
I love using the different currency and I love how alot of people here were rooting for Barack Obama… But i definetly don’t like the weather or the fact that there is dog poop all over every sidewalk here!

You were signed to Def Jam through Ludacris’s Record Label ‘Disturbing the Peace’ not to long ago and decided to leave - Why was that? 
I chose to leave on my own accordance due to me feeling like I was compromising my artistry in order to fit a certain mould for the label. I didn’t leave on bad terms though.

What was your experience working with Ludacris like?
My experience with Ludacris was Priceless! He is one of my favourite artist’s and it was amazing having someone of that status that believed in my talents. even though it didn’t work out as expected, it was still cool to work with the humble music mogul. You’ve also featured with Bobby Valentino, Joe, Destinys Child and Faith Evans to name a few – Do you have any memorable experience’s you could tell us about while working with them?
Nah not really.. .I always just kept to myself and was about my business but when I was in the Destiny’s Child ‘Jumpin Jumpin’ video Beyonce’s bodyguard kept eyeballing me and saying not to touch her in the dance scene and in my head I’m like.. i have to to make it look real so i did and of course the knuckle head had something to say after but i just ignored him lol… Goodtimes!

How would you describe your Music?
Real good feel good music

Who/What inspires You?
Life inspires… I admire people but i am truly inspired by Life.

Hmmm I like that…What makes You smile?

Too many things to name all but i love people watching in Starbucks and popping bubble wrap!

So not only are you a Singer but your also a Model who was the face of Enyce clothing and also signed to Ford Modelling Agency- Thats pretty Big! How did the modelling come about and can we catch you on any Billboards anytime soon?!
The modelling was just one of those things i was doing on the side but ended up doing full time and traveling all over the world. I just recently shot the Spring campaign for Ed Hardy and Live Mechanics which is just reaching all the music publications now.

So clearly Steph, your not just a pretty face – but do you find it helps with the Ladies?!
I never really look at it from that angle, I just love people and however they perceive me is how they perceive me.

Okay, so what we really wanna know is are you a Single Man? ) 
I am married to music and we make sweet passionate melody love all night and day!

You have an album coming out called ‘Mr Ordinary’, with your current single ‘Shooting Star‘ doing really well right now…Tell us about that. 
Actually I am about to release a six song EP and Shooting Star is the lead single off of that. The EP is gonna be really creative, innovative and full of energy and that’s all I can say for now.

Your all over Youtube with some videos we’re loving – ‘Creative Cup’ is dam near genius, ‘Hair Press’ enlightening and ‘Southern Love’makes me want to beg you to take me back to the states with you lol! Whats the reaction from your fans been like? 
Well first and foremost i don’t have any fans, they are called the mighty “frands”… its a combination of friends and fans and they ride for me like I ride for them. The response is lovely because I am honest with them.

So when can we expect to see Steph Jones back on these shores and will you be performing here again anytime Soon? 
I will know when i am coming back as soon as i get to the states and yes I will be performing when i come back.
